Archive for June, 2007

I feel it’s worth a quick mention to note that I have officially been accepted into the Lethbridge College Print Journalism course this fall. I simply have to mail my confirmation form and $300 of my tuition to hold my place. The next step is to apply for Residency. This is the start of something beautiful, I can feel it. After months of waiting, and years of self-discovery, I’ll be on my way to a career in online journalism.

The Longest Day

The longest day….of the year (June 22). It is the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, but simultaneously the start of winter in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s also the longest day of sunlight for places in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest day for cities south of the equator.

A Damn Good Horror Movie

In recent years, Hollywood’s been releasing half-ass horror movies that care more about character development and conflict then the actual blood and gore. Yes, I enjoy movies that scare the crap out of you and make you jump at a shocking scene. I honestly couldn’t care less if Johnny wants to get laid by Suzie, or all the rest of it. I want to be scared, dammit! I watched a movie I got off Bit Torrent called "The Condemned". It stars WWE star Steve Austin. His character, along with other scum off the earth spending their lives in prison, are taken to a remote island to essentially beat the crap out of each other, who ever is the last man standing walks away with a boatload of cash, thanks to a sick reality-tv internet producer. The movie is filled with gruesome scenes, but actually holds up a great storyline with ease, however unrealistic.

the actual release date is now July 13.

Another horror movie I’m going to try and get off the ‘net is "Captivity". "Top cover girl and fashion model, Jennifer Tree (ELISHA CUTHBERT) has it all – beauty, fame, money and power. Her face appears on covers of hundreds of magazines. At the top of her game, Jennifer is America’s sweetheart. She is loved and adored and sought after. Everyone wants her. But someone out there has been watching and waiting."

Celebrating Father's Day

With us all working shift work, it’s nearly impossible these days to get us all together without some weeks notice. Although we tried getting a hold of David again today, he seems to be working this evening. It’s the only time his cell phone is ever off. We’ve all chipped in and got Dad a new portable DVD player, an LG LP-835. It was on sale for $137 in total. My contribution to that was more as a birthday gift (June 9). I also got him some computer magazines and a movie for Father’s Day. Otherwise, we’ll also be treating him to a bday/Father’s Day combo restaurant meal whenever the hell we can all get together.

24 Renewed for 2 More Seasons

Fox has ordered two more seasons of "24," keeping the Emmy-winning drama on tv through the 2008-2009 TV season. The announcement comes on the eve of Fox’s Thursday upfront presentation. The show remains a powerful player for Fox, despite ratings dips and critical knocks this season. –

A Lack of Energy

It’s Sunday….and it’s my Friday. Not only do I feel extremely lazy today, but my energy is almost nil. I don’t feel sick or anything, just really lazy. However, I must force myself to finish the last day of my work week. I enjoy the work and all for what it’s worth, but some days a person just doesn’t want to crawl of of bed, and this is one of those days. As Alan would say, "Blargh!" Alas, it is time to ignore my Sunday blahs….must…go…to…work…

The Assassination of Jesse James

As the charismatic and unpredictable Jesse James (Brad Pitt) plans his next great robbery, he wages war on his enemies, who are trying to collect the reward money – and glory – riding on his capture. But the greatest threat to his life may ultimately come from those he trusts the most.
