Storm Warning For Edmonton Area

Hunker down, Edmonton. It’s about to get nasty.

After a balmy start to 2007, a blast of Arctic air – with the makings of one of the worst winter storms in 18 years – is headed for the area and should strike Wednesday, says CTV Edmonton weather specialist Richard Ozero.

"It’s a winter reality check," Ozero told the Sun yesterday.

Wednesday’s Arctic blast is expected to bring falling temperatures, as much as 14 cm of snow and strong winds, which could result in blowing snow and wind-chill factors in the minus 40s, Ozero said.

The snow will taper off Thursday, but frigid temperatures will remain with a daytime high in the -20s and overnight low in the -30s, Ozero said.

The cold snap could last for up to two weeks.
